In the morning, we disembarked onto the tundra of Nipisat Island, where the soft permafrost, was spongy and alive with plant life. This archaeological site, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, was once inhabited by the Saqqaq culture, a prehistoric people who lived there between 4,500 and 2,500 years ago. We could see areas with circles from the time of the Saqquaq and places with squares from the time of the whalers. Walking here, we felt a connection to the generations who lived and thrived in this environment.
