An epic journey traversing the North American Arctic from Greenland to Alaska
Following the route first sailed by the famed polar explorer, Roald Amundsen in his 1903-1906 voyage, our trip began in Kangerlussuaq, Greenland and ended in Nome, Alaska. Ours was the 420th vessel to complete the Northwest Passage sea route connecting the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans and the 91st ship carrying passengers in recorded history. The entire trip was in the Arctic Circle; the highest latitude was 75 degrees.
This is a special exhibition that tells the story of this recent trip to the Arctic. You can find more photos of my travels around the world under the Photos Collection found in the left Navigation Bar below this exhibit.
This DIGITAL EXHIBITION describes TRAVERSING THE ARCTIC in words and images.
The Journey - explore as we did, day by day and location by location. Below are detailed maps and legends showing the names of the places we visited; the place names correlate to the numbers on the maps. Click on the maps to read about those location and view the photos. Or, use the names of places to jump to that particular location. Some of my favorites are: 04 Ilulisat, 09 Quernbiter Fjord, 25 Port Epworth, 28 Smoking Hills and 33 Little Diomede Island.
